At the origins of Physio-synthesis
Where Roberto Assagioli meets Amy Cochran
Elena Graziadei in the magazine of the Istituto di Psicosintesi, Florence
One word in the film carried a listener back almost a century. Elena Graziadei, a movement therapist training in Psychosynthesis, caught the name Physio-synthesis in Ida Rolf’s story and heard in it an echo of Roberto Assagioli’s own work. With good reason. Mary Bond, a Structural Integration author who speaks in the film, had already traced the name to a meeting in 1930s Rome, where Assagioli suggested it to the osteopath Amy Cochran. Graziadei’s questions then led Piero Ferrucci to a sheet in the Assagioli Archives in Florence, where Assagioli once wrote the word in his own hand.
